About the Institute

The Government of Odisha has established the Biju Patnaik Film & Television Institute of Odisha (BPFTIO) as an autonomous institute under a World Bank–assisted scheme. The institute aims to meet the growing demand for well-trained technical professionals in the fields of film production and television.

Situated on the banks of the River Mahanadi, the institute is located within the expansive campus of Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering (BOSE), Cuttack – one of the oldest engineering institutions in the state. BPFTIO is funded by the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, Government of Odisha.

Since its inception, the institute has continuously evolved to meet industry needs. From 1998 to 2020, BPFTIO offered 3-year diploma programmes in Cinematography, Sound & TV Engineering, and Film & Video Editing. In 2021, these were upgraded into 4-year degree programmes in Cinematography, Sound Recording & Sound Design, and Film Editing.

Equipped with advanced and sophisticated facilities, BPFTIO provides an ideal environment for professional training. The programmes are guided by experienced faculty members who bring both academic and industry expertise.

Through a balanced approach of theoretical learning and practical training, students develop the necessary skills and competencies to excel in the film and television industry. Graduates of the institute have consistently secured opportunities across government and private sectors, including media channels, television, and film production industries.
