Leading the next generation of filmmakers with creativity and purpose.

Prof. Himansu Sekhar Khatua

Chairman, Biju Patnaik Film & Television Institute of Odisha (BPFTIO)

It is both an honour and a homecoming for me to resume my responsibilities as Chairman of BPFTIO. Having served this esteemed institution as Head of Sound Recording & Designing during its formative years, I have witnessed its growth  firsthand – from establishing its studios and academic framework to contributing to its identity as a centre of excellence in audiovisual education.

BPFTIO celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in 2023, marking a remarkable journey shaped by visionary leaders, including former Chairmen such as the Chief Secretary of Odisha, the eminent writer-administrator Shri Debadas Chhotray, and distinguished senior officers from the Government of India and Odisha. Their stewardship has strengthened the foundation upon which we continue to build.

As I take charge once again, the road ahead is filled with new opportunities and significant responsibilities. We are poised to expand our academic ecosystem – upgrading degree syllabi, introducing new courses aligned with global industry standards, and streamlining academic and administrative processes to ensure efficiency, innovation, and quality.

One of our most ambitious tasks is developing the upcoming new Film Institute campus. This project represents not just infrastructural expansion, but a bold vision for the future of film and media education in Odisha – an environment where creativity, technology, and research flourish together.

I am confident that our proud alumni, dedicated faculty, committed staff, and the proactive support of the Government of Odisha – especially the Skill Development & Technical Education Department, DTET, and OFDC – will collectively empower us to achieve our goals. I also look forward to guidance and collaboration with filmmakers, producers, technicians, and industry experts. Together, we will usher BPFTIO into its next era – stronger, more dynamic, and globally connected.

I express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Odisha for this responsibility and to all students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners for their continuous support. I look forward to building a dynamic, progressive, and globally relevant Film Institute – one that inspires, transforms, and leads.

Let us work together to shape the future of cinema and media in Odisha.

Warm regards,
Prof. Himansu S. Khatua
